Job Purpose:

It is a transformational time for Dreamland Margate and the Operations Director will play a critical role in the success of the business. Following a £25m investment programme, Dreamland relaunches in 2017 with wonderfully restored vintage rides, destination dining and events spaces for audiences of 15 to 15,000. In addition to the Dreamland park, we will be opening a gastro-pub and rooftop bar on Margate’s iconic seafront.

Your primary responsibility will be to lead an Operations department that ensures Dreamland’s customers have a fantastic, seamless experience in a safe, clean and welcoming environment. The department’s scope is across the breadth of the business and includes park operations, commercial operations, technical operations, facilities and maintenance and security. You will be diligent and detail orientated - ensuring that the business continues to enhance its end to end customer experience while improving operational and cost efficiency.

You will evaluate business performance whilst managing the implementation of business guidelines and strategies, direct and coordinate the internal structure of the business on Company policies, goals and objectives to ensure a safe and efficient working environment and that deadlines are met consistently.

You will be an influential leader and a strong communicator, giving clear direction and coaching to your team, while playing a key role within the senior leadership team alongside the CEO and the broader leadership team.

The Company is effectively a start-up business and will require strong leadership and clear communication internally and externally. You will require to create vision and build a strong delivery culture for the operational business to follow.

Role and Responsibilities:

Key responsibilities

Leadership: You will lead the largest team at Dreamland. Developing as a senior leader in the business, you will be responsible for all aspects and departments that are key to the day to day delivery of the amusement park operations and large scale event delivery for third party events. You overarching objective is to deliver a world class customer experience, thereby maximising revenue and ensuring high levels of repeat custom and referrals. In addition, you will undertake strategic projects to ensure business growth through master planning and site development.

Budget responsibility for all aspects of estate operational delivery, pro actively seeking synergies and efficiencies (e.g. ensuring that all supplier agreements deliver value for money through procurement) across cost centres.

Carry out Duty Director responsibilities as part of an overall rota system.

Park operations: Provide leadership to the Park Operations Team including the Head of Park Operations, Ride Supervisors and ride operators to ensure efficient and safe operation of the park at all times. You will endeavour to ensure high ride availability, maximum ride throughputs, up to date operation and ride evacuation procedures and training.

Commercial operations & Events: You will provide leadership to all operational staff including catering & service delivery, customer service & experience teams across admissions, retail and membership operations. Pro actively improving the experience for all visitors including pre-empting potentially brand-damaging issues. Lead the planning and operational delivery of large scale events and the teams supporting the venue management, ensuring compliance in accordance with industry guidelines.

Technical operations: Oversee the Technical Department managed by the Head of Technical and Chief Engineer to ensure a robust preventative maintenance schedule is followed to optimise the availability of the rides during the season. This includes an innovative approach to technical solutions against the manufacture manuals for each ride. Ensure the rides are maintained to their beautifully restored state without compromise, including service and operation agreements with third parties are being delivered to optimise the operation.

Estates Maintenance and Security: Oversee the implementation and management of the full preventative park maintenance schedule to ensure the estate is kept to an exceptionally high standard. Review of building maintenance systems providing efficiencies across all infrastructure and utilities. Overall responsibility for all aspects of estate safety and security, safety policies and procedures, and as the senior point of contact with relevant authorities including police, local authority and other licensing bodies. Project management (CAPEX) e.g. selection of suppliers, contract management/ negotiation and scope of works.

Health & Safety: Responsibility for health & safety, as well as environmental matters across the estate ensuring that all aspects of the venue health & safety policies are adhered to and ensure compliance with all relevant legislation, escalating any relevant issues to the Operations Board. Chair the monthly Health & Safety Committee. Overseeing park crisis management, emergency disaster recovery and contingency plans.

Person Specification:

• Senior leader with experience of managing the operations of a large venue or world-class customer-focused entertainment complex.
• Ability to lead and manage diverse operations and staff in a B2C environment.
• Strong strategic, analytical and presentational / communication skills.
• Ability to work in a team environment, flexible, proactive, self-motivated, results-driven, enthusiastic and ability to multi-task, deliver to strict deadlines and work under pressure.
• Pro-active approach to risk management in a dynamic environment.
• Methodical approach with strong planning and organisational skills.
• Technically savvy, with very strong PowerPoint and Excel competence.
• Determination to protect the brand at all times.
• Strong interpersonal skills, capable of working with management and stakeholders of all levels and disciplines.
